Specialty earplugs called Combat Arms were manufactured by a company called 3M and were standard issue to military service members between the years of 2003 and 2015.

    Earplugs are a necessity for men and women in the armed forces. Explosions and other loud noises can not only prevent service members from hearing necessary instructions but injuries to the inner ear can lead to permanent damage. Specialty earplugs called Combat Arms were manufactured by a company called 3M and were standard issue to military service members between the years of 2003 and 2015. 

    These earplugs have two connecting parts. Using just the base plug, the wearer could dampen loud sounds like explosions but still hear closer sounds like orders and conversation. Using both the base and extended plug, the earplugs functioned as standard earplugs would, dampening or muting all sounds.

    What Injuries & Side Effects Result from 3M Military Ear plugs? 

    Military service members are regularly exposed to loud, damaging noise that has the potential to permanently damage their hearing. The military is supposed to protect these service members by providing ear plugs to protect against these noises but between the years of 2003 and 2015, service members were provided faulty ear plugs that did not fit, stay in place, or provide any protection against damaging sounds. These service members are now experiencing hearing impairment, hearing loss, and tinnitus as a result of the fault Combat Arms earplugs designed by 3M.
